A bumpy start - unexpected Nigeria visit

Good morning - getting to Ghana can be harder than one would think. Ordinarily you hop into an Iberia plane in Barcelona, hop into a British airways machine in London Heathrow and in less than ten hours you are in Accra. In my case a malfunctioning LED in the cockpit caused a three hour delay in Barcelona and the days only flight to Accra was long gone when I arrives in Heathrow.

Unwilling to lose a full day I talked the British Airways customer service into booking me on an indirect night flight via Lagos, Nigeria. (Interesting city, 20 million people and no power grid, as I was told.)

So far everything has worked well, I had an uneventful flight and received seemingly special treatment by immigration, from there an officer accompanied me to the other terminal, skipped me through the line at Air Nigeria's check in counter, fast tracked me through security and passport control and walked to my departure gate with me. The fact that he was all the while holding my passport and ticket was only mildly unsettling...

And here I am at the Gabfol Lounge, passing time until mu flight to Accra, enjoying a chicken dish with Jolof rice, a traditional Nigerian meal as the menu had assured me. Nice and spicy indeed, compliments to the Nigerian kitchen. However little I saw of Nigeria; this dish tells me I should come back one day.

Yours,
Carl
